Volume II

IN THIS ISSUE:

FROM OUR EDITOR'S DESK

Hello!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family! With every year that I get older, I find that time passes faster and faster, after all it seems like just yesterday we were welcoming the spring, and now here we are getting ready for the big feast ahead.

We had a perfect Canadian Thanksgiving and I am now looking forward to celebrating the American tradition later this month. Because of other obligations, Amy and I won't be doing the usual large gathering of friends and family this year, instead opting to just spend it quietly together. But don't think for a moment that is going to stop us from cooking the feast - it just means more food for us! We'll be having turkey and my all time favorites - my own recipe for homemade cornbread stuffing and Amy's homemade cranberry sauce! Cornbread stuffing and cranberry sauce are just so perfect with turkey and gravy that when I don't get them (especially Amy's sauce), Thanksgiving just isn't the same!

Speaking of turkey and dressing, Amy and I want to send a special congratulations to two of our neighbors, friends, and Ottawa's finest, Denis and Jo-Lynn, who just tied the knot on October 21st (they served a darn fine turkey at the reception, hence the turkey tie-in!). They are two of the kindest, most upstanding people we know, and their wedding was absolutely beautiful! They were fortunate enough to be able to bring or have most of their family and friends from the Canadian Maritimes come to the ceremony, and let me tell you, those are some amazing people who truly know the meaning of happiness, the importance of family and friends, and how to have a good time. All the best you guys and here's to a long and loving future!

Finally, as long as we are on the topic of happy couples, I want to be a bit selfish and take a moment to say happy anniversary to my wonderful wife, Amy. We will be celebrating number 9 on the 21st of this month, and without any question or doubt, I would gladly do it all over again. I'm not always so sure she would though. As my friends say, to be married to me she must be the most patient woman on earth! Well, if nothing else, I do keep things interesting for her.

Have a great month and thanks for reading. Stay warm, stay safe, and get festive!

What's in this month's issue...
While looking for an article that went outside the usual Thanksgiving and holiday topics, I ran across a great sentiment that made me stop and think about what Thanksgiving really means. Hopefully, this month's article will help bring back some of the perspective that many of us have forgotten when we think of what being thankful really means, regardless of where or when you celebrate it!

Because I love it so much and it is one of the most requested items at our holiday table, I had to share my cornbread stuffing recipe with you. It takes a bit of time to put together, but in the end, it is the perfect holiday side-dish for turkey, beef, goose, duck, and virtually any other entree you are serving.
Once you get everyone gathered at the table, a toast is always appropriate to show a heartfelt welcome to your table, as well as to kick off the eating and festivities. This month's "did you know" is a collection of famous and traditional quotes about Thanksgiving that'll help you find that perfect way to start off your toast when expressing your sentiments to your guests and family!

NEWS FROM THE WORLD OF FOOD

Importance of Thanksgiving
By David Leonhardt

Thanksgiving is the most important holiday of the year.

Oh, sure, Christmas is grand, and I know it has many, many fans. I'm not knocking Christmas, but Thanksgiving is more important. And Easter has its fans, too. Rebirth is a wonderful thing, but I still say Thanksgiving is more important. Yes, the kids might put in a good word for Halloween. I am sure they enjoy the costumes and the sugar overdose, but Thanksgiving is more important...

OUR FEATURED RECIPE

HOMEMADE CORNBREAD STUFFING

This is an absolute must-have at our holiday feasts. While it does take a bit of time and effort to make, this stuffing is really simple and the perfect way to bring a true southern tradition to your table! Serve it with turkey, chicken, pork, beef, and even seafood!

Step 1 - Make the cornbread

1 cup milk
1 cup buttermilk
2 extra-large eggs
1/4 cup vegetable/canola oil
